What do Christians do?
Well, before we consider their behaviour, we need to define what a Christian is. The simplest definition is: someone who tries to follow the teachings of Jesus.
And what was it that he taught?
He said, “Love Allah with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.” He also said, “Love your neighbour as yourself.”
Do Christians actually do this?
Some of the Christians I know seem to be trying to do this and it’s a pleasure to be with them, but others don’t manage it. Looking at our definition, though, if they’re not even trying to love Allah and love their neighbour, are they really Christians at all? Maybe they think they’re Christians simply because they’ve grown up in a Christian culture. But we know there’s more to it than that, don’t we? As someone has said: “I might have been born in a garage, but that doesn’t make me a car!”
“Love Allah with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.” I really respect this teaching.
“Love your neighbour as yourself.” Oh, wouldn’t it be a wonderful world if everybody did this? Is it too much to ask?
It seems that the answer is: Yes.
